Disputable Territories as Hotbeds of Tension on the Border

Abstract

The article dwells on conflict situations on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the Isfara Valley‚ their survey and analysis. It is marked that the latters aggravated in the early 90-ies due to the USSR collapse when independent states has sprung up. Separate parts of the borders have been uncertain up to now. Economic activities on disputable areas entail conflicts. The authors analyze the processes concerned with rises and developments of conflicts in Isfara exerting direct influence over the perspectives of interrelations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. They make an endeavour of determining a character of a conflict and searching for a way of its settlement. The article presents the conflict situations which took place in the Isfara Valley in the period of 2013 – 2015.

 

The authors state that border disputes may be settled by the efforts of both parties. Demarcation and delimitation of borders between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are a factor of insurance of sustainable development and security of the states of Central Asia.
