The article examines the legal aspects of the National Bank of Tajikistan based on the legislation of Tajikistan. It is noted that, in light of modern realities, one of the issues that urgently needs to be researched is the legal status of national or so-called central banks. This issue is not new in legal science, but the research conducted on it has not yet revealed its full depth. Some scholars argue that national banks should not be considered banks, since they participate in legal relations as an entity with powers of authority and, within the framework of their powers, regulate and supervise the activities of all credit institutions.Others argue that, unlike commercial banks, they are both a bank and a government agency. A comparative legal analysis of the banking systems of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan was conducted.
