The article dwells on the peculiarities of small and medium business competitiveness functioning under the conditions of liberalized economy. The author has elicited the perspectives of elevation of efficiency referring to the subjects of small and medium economy. She has researched theoretical aspects of their activities and studied the experience of developed countries connected with the business in question. Prerequisits promoting a development of small and medium business and also those ones restraining it have been analyzed. Competitiveness of business environment in the space of national economy has been considered, inadequacy of financial resources for competitive activity of both types of business has been revealed. The author elaborated theoretical streamlines aimed at an improvement of business environment in small and medium kinds of economy running. She worked out a model of small and medium business which world effectively evolves in regional economy. State policy of reformation of the subjects of small and medium economy running targeted at a formation of favourable competitive miliue is well grounded.
